FMI PD DAYS
March 11, 2005
The Financial Management Institute of Canada (FMI) is a professional association for those interested in public sector financial management. Background information on both FMI and FMI Capital Chapter (FMI CC) is included below.
As the FMI and ACFO have successfully cooperated in the past and share many goals, we want to ensure that all FIs are aware of the networking opportunities available through FMI's Professional Development Days (PD Days). In addition to networking, PD Days also provide an opportunity to present and share ideas on current government financial management related issues, to learn about the most up-to-date practices and technologies applicable to government financial administration, and to develop technical and managerial skills. FMI PD Days also provide an excellent forum to share best practices.

Background on FMI and FMI CC
The Financial Management Institute (FMI) is a not-for-profit organization, established in 1962 by the Senior Full-time Financial Officers (SFFOs). The Institute has 12 chapters across Canada including FMI CC. These chapters host ongoing professional development events that provide ever-important opportunities for networking and professional exchange within the financial community.
FMI CC has enjoyed very strong support from the Senior Financial Officer (SFO) and SFFO communities. The Chapter has over 700 members in the National Capital Region, the majority of which are financial officers (FI) in the Government of Canada.
From 1996 to 2003, FMI CC hosted 77 professional development days (PD Days) with over 5,800 attendees. The majority of work is done by volunteers. The Board of Directors is comprised of sixteen (16) dedicated members of the financial management community from the federal government and private sector. There are an additional 16 dedicated volunteers to support the Program Committee. One contractor supports the Capital Chapter.
