NOMINEE FOR CHAIR
James (Jim) F. Currier
www.jimcurrier.ca
I have worked for you, the members of the Association of Canadian Financial Officers (ACFO), for six years as a Board Member. As the current Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors, Chairman of the Membership Services Committee and a member of the Communications Committee, I have contributed significantly to the betterment of our Association.
With 23 years experience within the federal civil service in a financial capacity, I have a keen understanding of the daily issues facing Financial Officers.
I am bilingual, a dynamic public speaker, have effective interpersonal skills and possess the qualities, skills and experience required to effectively lead our Association. Most importantly, I am committed to the well being of the Association and the promotion of the interests of our members.
I will lead ACFO by working closely with the Board of Directors to further expand our multi-year planning processes so we have a well thought out course of action. That plan will be shared with our members to seek their input.
In the short term, my first step will be to significantly increase communications with our members by: a) implementing changes to our web site to make better use of the opportunities that it can provide; b) appointing a number of new departmental representatives to provide contact persons for assistance to our members, and c) organizing meetings with members to increase networking opportunities.
Next, I will actively create opportunities for meetings with Central Agencies, Heads of Departments and Senior Financial Officers. This will help promote our Association, gain exposure within government circles and allow us to help avoid decisions that will negatively impact our members.
Furthermore, I will push for more education and research activities in order to provide more material for future Checks and Balances Reports. These reports will assist us in gaining greater recognition as advocates for change and improvements to the Management Control Framework.
As I mentioned earlier, I will participate in meetings with Heads of Departments and Senior Financial Officers to promote a collaborative approach to resolving issues. Our partners and most of the key stakeholders are located in the Ottawa region; consequently, the majority of my meetings and efforts to manage our agenda will occur in the NCR.
To lead, I must be visible and available for consultation and that means being in Ottawa! ACFO deserves the Chairman's full attention. I have therefore begun preliminary steps to relocate to Ottawa where I can dedicate my energies to our Association.
I will work tirelessly to promote the best interests of you, the member. Please vote for me for ACFO Chairman. Visit www.jimcurrier.ca for more information - don't vote without all the facts!
