NOMINEE FOR DIRECTOR
Tony Bourque

To ACFO Members

Tony BourqueThere are 3 main issues that have motivated me to seek a position on the Board Of Directors for ACFO.

The most prevalent of these issues in my opinion is compensation. Our financial community provides a valuable service to the government and we deserve to be compensated accordingly. I feel the group as a whole is under compensated. Specific consideration for an additional increment for the FI-01 and 02 levels also needs to be considered. I find it difficult to comprehend why we have basically the same qualifications and responsibility (probably more in some cases) than the AU group, for instance, but yet their compensation is much higher on all levels. Furthermore, we seem to have also been surpassed in the area of remuneration by other less qualified groups. In fact, in some departments we have FI-01's actually making less than the people they supervise.

Accessibility and visibility of our Association to the membership and to the employer is also a vital component to our success as a group. Mechanisms at the local level are required whereby our members can ask questions and share ideas and concerns and have them jointly viewed by an ACFO representative. We need that liaison between the members and the Association. Presently we do not have that 2-way communication. Furthermore, many members are unaware if their concerns are even being addressed to the employer. We need to have a presence with the employer. As a board member I would push forward for regional and local representation. I feel that in the last year we have made great strides in communicating with the membership on a global basis but now it is imperative that we move toward local and departmental representation.

Another crucial area is training and professional development. A key requirement of our job is that we must remain current with the latest developments in our profession. Accounting Associations make this point mandatory in order to better serve their clients. It is extremely important that we are given the opportunity to develop. The employer should give full recognition to this element, as it would certainly prove to be a benefit to them also.

In order to pursue these challenges a significant amount of time is required and if successful I would be willing to invest that time. If you are agreement with my views please vote for me. I would press hard to address the above issues. Thank you.
