PD DAY AND 15TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

Member breakfast a success

On October 26, ACFO celebrated its 15th anniversary with a breakfast for members at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Breakfast was served at 7:45, and after everyone had settled in, Vice President Jim Currier opened with a speech which glanced back at the past 15 years of the organization, as well as looking forward into the future.

Treasury Board Secretariat President Reg Alcock, who was to be the key-note speaker, was not able to join us due to other commitments. We were very pleased that Mark Holland, MP for Ajax-Pickering and Vice Chair of the Public Accounts Committee, graciously stepped in. He answered many questions that are of concern to many of our members.

Then it was time to take the celebrations to the next level: A special ACFO 15th anniversary cake was cut and judging from the little that was left of it, enjoyed by everyone.

Finally, Katherine Cotton of law firm Kelly, Howard and Santini, author of the second Checks and Balances report, took the members through a summary of the arguments laid out in the report.

Many members approached us with suggestions and insightful, constructive comments for improvements. We would like you to know that you were heard and what you told us will be taken with us in our strategic planning going forward.

We would like to thank our guest speakers and members for helping us celebrate this special day with us.
