YOUR GUIDE TO ACCOUNTABILITY IN THE PUBLIC SERVICE

ACFO members have a valuable contribution to ensuring accountability in government and are obligated to exercise your duties in accordance with professional and legislative requirements.

In the event that you are required to take any action that you believe is unprofessional, inappropriate or illegal you should consider taking the following steps that should enable you to express your legitimate concerns without fear of censure, discipline or dismissal.

  • Carry out the lawful directions of your employer in accordance with the Financial Administration Act;

  • Contact your ACFO labour relations advisor to discuss your concerns and options;

  • Express your specific concerns verbally and in writing to your direct supervisor;

  • If you are a member of a regulated profession, contact your professional association regarding your professional obligations.

Taking these steps should provide you with the necessary information and support required to assist you in resolving your concerns while protecting your interests as an employee.

If you have any questions or comments concerning this or any other matter please contact your ACFO Labour Relations Staff.
