PUBLIC SERVICE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING COMMITTEE
October 4, 2001
The third meeting of the APSFA 2001 Public Service Collective Bargaining Committee took place on Friday, September 28, 2001. The meeting was extremely productive, and much was accomplished. All members of the committee have worked extremely hard and they have shown great dedication to our community.
The first order of business was to finalize the list of non-monetary proposals derived from both the recommendations submitted by the membership, as well as a review of recently negotiated settlements by other bargaining agents. Also, small working groups, comprised of committee members, have been tasked to perform various research and analysis activities in order to support our monetary demands. In addition, the Association has submitted several applications under the Access to Information Act to various departments and central agencies and we will be, depending on the level of cooperation provided, assembling and analyzing the requested data in the next few weeks.
The next order of business was for the committee to vote for 5 members to constitute the Negotiating Team. Congratulations go out to those selected, and we are confident they will work exceedingly hard. The names and contact details of the Negotiating Team can be viewed here. We wish to stress that the entire Committee will remain involved in the process throughout, providing logistical and strategic support to the Negotiating Team.
The next meeting of the Collective Bargaining Committee will be held on Saturday, October 27th, 2001. This should be just prior to the first meeting with the employer, in which we will exchange proposals, and discuss future dates for negotiations.
It's important to note that, although the committee will strive to reach the best possible deal in the shortest possible time frame, much depends on the willingness of the employer to not only fairly consider our monetary and non-monetary demands, but to also address all pertinent issues, such as recognizing the professionalism of our community. For this reason, we urge you to show your encouragement and support for the Committee, and let them know that we all share a vested interest in these proceedings.
Regular updates will be posted here, and we encourage you to discuss the issues with your fellow FI's, and to continue to provide feedback to the Committee, as we travel down this long, and sometimes winding, road called Collective Bargaining.
