PUBLIC SERVICE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING COMMITTEE
September 11, 2001
The APSFA 2001 Public Service Collective Bargaining Committee met for the second time on August 24-25, 2001. The two major items covered by the committee were the results of the vote to determine the bargaining method chosen by the membership and to review the results of the surveys covering items the membership wishes the committee to address during this round of collective bargaining.
In regards to the vote, the results have determined that binding arbitration is the choice of the majority of the members who submitted their ballots. The collective bargaining committee will prepare its strategy around this method and will work hard and long to attain the best possible deal for the entire membership. It is important to note that the Association received a record number of ballots for this vote. This underlines the importance that all of us share in this round of bargaining.
The second objective of the meeting was to review the results of the surveys submitted by the membership. The suggestions/recommendations were numerous, creative and well received by the committee. Rest assured that all the suggestions falling within the scope of collective bargaining will be addressed by the committee. Items relating to subjects such as pensions, travel claims and hospitality fall under legislation governed by bodies such as the National Joint Council (NJC) and the Treasury Board Travel Directive and they will be addressed within those forums during the review period.
The next meeting of the committee will be on September 28th, 2001. Your feedback is welcome and appreciated, and it is crucial that you continue to show your support for the members of the collective bargaining committee. Feel free to contact any member of the committee and to visit the Web site often to read updates.
