2001 Regional Visits

The Association is committed to ensuring that the Membership is kept up-to-date on issues and events and has an opportunity to meet directly with members of its executive/board of directors. Therefore, the President, Merdon Hosking and the Treasurer, Gene Szabo, will once again be conducting regional visits with the membership to outline current issues, future challenges and to provide a forum for members to express their views and to determine the future of their Association.

After a very frustrating and unusually lengthy round of collective bargaining, members expressed concerns that the perception that a small association lacks clout may have contributed to the arrogant attitude of the employer at the bargaining table. The Board of Directors felt there was sufficient concern expressed that they commenced to study the possibility of an affiliation with a larger organization. The Board wants to use these meetings to gauge whether there is sufficient membership support to warrant a vote on an affiliation proposal. Your Board asks that you make every effort to attend these important meetings. Other subjects to be covered at the meeting are:

  • Collective Bargaining Update
  • UCS Update
  • Modernizing Human Resource Management in the PS (Quail Task Force)

Proposed visit locations are detailed in the 2001 Regional Visit Attendance Confirmation form.

We appreciate that not all FIs live in the major centres. In the past, we have taken the opportunity to meet with these FIs as we had occasion to travel to their location (Yellowknife for example) and will continue to do so. Should any of you be in any of the scheduled locations, please take the opportunity to attend.
